2024 brought back the 90’s big time with bubble braids, big curls, and structured cuts with volume and bounce. And these carry through to the holidays. If you’re trying to figure out your look for a holiday party, visiting family, or even prepping for NYE, we’ve got you covered with our top three picks for long hair.
Each one avoids heated tools so your hair can have a break if you’ve been overdoing it with hairdryers and irons, and they don’t require much maintenance so you can focus on getting to the festivities and celebrating in style.
Half-up, Flat Clip with Bangs Relaxed Look
Wearing a flat clip just makes sense in the holidays. You can rest your head back without an “ouch” moment and they come in holiday prints, patterns, and colors to keep the festive vibes flowing.
The bangs frame your face so every photo is Instagram or TikTok worthy, and because your hair is held behind your head, it stays out of the way while you enjoy dinner, unwrapping gifts, or catching up with friends.
A unique twist that could look fabulous is bringing back bangs from the “hime” look which was popular in January and February instead of curls.
- Brush knots and tangles out of your hair.
- Separate your hair around your temples into a top and bottom section, and pull the top section back below the crown of your head leaving bangs out to frame your face.
- Secure the upper section into the flat clip at the back of your head and smooth it out to blend in with the lower portion.
- Now style your bangs to match your holiday look.
Heatless Curls
Curls and the holidays never go out of season. From characters in classic feel good holiday movies, to a look that works under a beanie cap and takes a simple fix with your fingers when you go inside, they’re bouncy and full of life.
And heatless curls follow along with one of the largest trends in 2024 of volume and bounce. By preparing the night before you can have luxurious curls without the heated tools and enjoy the volume and life of your hair while you celebrate the season.
- Dampen your hair and then brush out any tangles or knots.
- Run a hair mousse through your hair with your fingers, and separate it into 5 ponytails if you want waves, and 9 to 11 ponytails if you want curls.
- Waves need looser wraps so larger chunks of hair work better.
- Curls need tight and tiny buns so they hold tighter spirals.
- Wrap each ponytail into a hair bun using a hair tie and let it hold for at least 8 hours.
- Once 8 hours or longer has passed, carefully release each hair bun and gently run your fingers through the curls to shape them how you want.
- With a medium to strong hold hairspray, spritz the curls to give them extra strength so they last through the night.
Braids with Ribbons Woven In
From music videos to celebrity shows, braids and updos with ribbons have made their way back to style. And there’s nothing more classic than a standard simple braid for the holidays. But 2024 wants pop, so it is easy to elevate this holiday hairstyle with a festive pattern or printed ribbon for extra color and texture.
It’s fun, unexpected, and festive all at once. And if you love bows, tie one around the top of the braid and add pops of color at the bottom with spiral hair ties in matching holiday colors.
The advanced way to do this is to secure the ribbon against one of the strands of hair while you weave so it remains thick, but the style looks fabulous if you use the ribbon as one of the three sections itself.
- Brush knots and tangles out of your hair.
- Tie the tip of the ribbon to a hair tie.
- Decide where you want the braid to begin, and secure your hair into a ponytail with the hair tie.
- Split your hair into two sections and make the ribbon the third.
- Weave the right section over the middle so it becomes the new middle section.
- Now weave the left section over the middle so it becomes the new middle section.
- Keep going until you get to the bottom of the strands and secure them with a spiral hair tie.
- Now tease the weave out to the thickness you’d like, and spritz it with a light hairspray to keep flyaways under control.
