If you’re ready to take your time back and make getting ready for holiday events easy, here’s five holiday hairstyles for girls. The first step in each style is to have them brush knots and tangles out of their hair, so we’re going to leave that one out.

Bubble Braids

The iconic 90’s bubble braid hairstyle is still as popular as ever. And it pops back up each holiday season as the bubbles look like ornaments. When you use spiral hair ties like ours, you can add alternating blues and whites for Hannukah, red and green for Christmas, silvers for non-denominational celebrations, and Red, Black, and Green for Kwanzaa.

  1. Have one child gather the other’s hair into a ponytail where the bubble braid should start.
    1. Both high ponytails at the crown of the head or side ponytails are great options!
  2. Secure the ponytail with the first hair tie.
  3. Two inches below the first one for smaller bubbles and three or four inches for larger, secure the second hair tie and have it be the alternating color.
  4. Now gently tease out the shape of the bubble.
  5. Repeat until you get to the end of the bubble braid and have the other person make sure the bubbles are even in size and shape.

Ribbon in a Basic Braid

Ribbons aren’t only for wrapping presents during the holidays, they may perfect hair accessories too. By adding a ribbon into a braid you bring a fabric texture, holiday prints or colors, and some extra life to your holiday hairstyle. This is the basic style which is easy for everyone.  Once your kids get good at it, there are advanced options they can try.

  1. Tie the ribbon onto a hair tie so it is secure.
  2. Secure a ponytail with the hair tie where you want the braid to start.
  3. Section the ponytail into two equal parts and use the ribbon as the third.
  4. Now do a basic braid where you move the right section over the middle so it becomes the middle, then the left over the middle so it becomes the middle.
  5. Repeat this pattern until you reach the end of the braid and secure it with a second hair tie.

Scrunchie Space Buns

Another fun and easy girls hairstyle for the holidays is a scrunchie space bun. And there’s no shortage of creative ways to take this look to new heights.

She can tie ribbons with holiday prints and colors to the hair tie that holds the bun in place, or braid the ponytail before wrapping the base bun for extra texture.  Unlike a standard space bun, the scrunchies add pops of holiday colors and fabric to spread cheer.

  1. Split her hair down the middle into two even sections and secure each section into ponytails with a hair tie where you want the space bun to be.
  2. Gently twist the ponytail into a coil but not so tight that it folds in on itself, and wrap it around the base so it forms a hair bun.
  3. Tuck the tip of the ponytail into the bun so it is neat.
  4. Wrap a scrunchie around the bun so it is secure.
  5. Either use a scrunchie with non-slip technology like ours, or add a bobby pin to keep it in place.

Flat Clip, Half-up With a Ribbon Braid Below

Perfect for long hair, use a holiday themed flat hair clip so she can rest her head back easy if it gets late during dinner, and it keeps her hairstyle festive. By adding a ribbon to the braid you bring holiday cheer that will last until the new year.

  1. Separate her hair to a top and bottom section and secure the top section in the flat hair clip where you want the braid to start.
  2. Add a ribbon into the flat clip leaving a long side out at the same length as the strands of hair by:
    1. Using the teeth to secure it
    2. Looping it over one of the bars in the opening
    3. Wrap one of the bars with the ribbon so it has the pattern from the ribbon covering it.
  3. Now separate the hair hanging out from the clip into two equal sections, the ribbon becomes the third.
  4. Do a basic braid weave where you move the right over the middle so it becomes the middle, then the left over the middle so it becomes the middle.
  5. Repeat until you get to where you want the braid to end and secure it with a hair tie.

French Braided Top With a Claw Clip Ponytail

We’ve saved the best, and more advanced girl's holiday hairstyle for last. It’s a classic French braid on top for texture and keeping her hair secure, and a fun claw clip ponytail behind.

The French braid may take a few tries because the size of the strands should be equal, but it is still kid friendly with some practice. This buys you extra time to prepare for holiday parties or to have some downtime.

  1. Separate three equal sections of hair from the front of her head.
  2. Weave the right side over the middle to the left so it becomes the middle, then weave the left side over the middle so it becomes the new middle strand.
    1. French braiding goes over the middle, Dutch braiding goes under.
  3. Now add another small section of hair from below each strand and repeat.
  4. Do this until you get to the back of the head and gather her hair into a ponytail with a hair tie so she can remove the claw clip if you have to go in a car or she wants to set her hair down later.
  5. Now add a claw clip for a pop of color and depth and smooth out the ponytail with your fingers or a brush.

And now you have five holiday hairstyles for girls that they can have fun styling together.  When they're having fun and getting ready for guests, you get some well deserved time to yourself.
