On St. Patrick's Day, people from all over the world let their hair down — or, in some cases, as you’ll see in this blog, put their hair up — in celebration of Irish pride.
It’s an annual holiday on March 17th, celebrating Ireland’s culture and history in honor of the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. People go all out for St. Patrick’s Day, with parades, traditional foods, music, dancing, and drinking. As the Irish would say, it’s good craic.
On the day, people dress head to toe in green, waving Irish flags and shamrock symbols which are traditionally associated with Ireland. ☘️ Lots of people even dress up as leprechauns — the small, bearded, mischievous fairies from Irish folklore.
If you want that extra wow factor to your Irish get-up, then a St. Patrick’s Day hairdo is the way to go. You could go full cosplay with leprechaun hair, or maybe you’d prefer to add a stylish and practical touch with TELETIES St. Patrick’s Day accessories. Whether you’re attending a parade, heading to a St. Patrick’s Day party, or getting your child ready for St. Patrick’s Day at school, we’ve got all the St. Patty's Day hairstyles you need.
St. Patrick’s Day Hair Ideas for Every Style
As a wise person once said, life is too short to have boring hair. But that doesn’t mean you need an extravagant ‘do. Even the smallest accessories or pops of color can make your St. Patrick’s Day hair interesting.
From casual to glam hairstyles, TELETIES hair ties, scrunchies, clips, and headbands can add that something extra to your Irish hairstyle.
Here are some St. Patrick’s Day hair ideas to inspire your locks for the occasion!
Classic Braided Looks with an Irish Hairstyle Twist
Putting your hair into braids doesn’t just look cute. It’s also a nod to Irish traditions and Celtic roots. Celtic people often wore intricately designed braided hairstyles. They’d also add decorative elements to their hair, like pins and beads!
Plus, braids are a great way to keep your hairstyle intact throughout a day of festivities. Use TELETIES green silk scrunchies or green hair ties to add that extra touch of green to your look.
You could even braid a green ribbon into your hair, or tie mini ribbons throughout your Celtic plaits to tie it all together — see what we did there? 😏
Playful Leprechaun Hairstyles for a Whimsical Look
If you want to channel your inner leprechaun, then fun and playful looks are the way to go. Twisted buns or space buns are a quirky, interesting style that always gets compliments! They look so impressive but aren’t too complicated to pull off.
If you want to go hard or go home this St. Patty’s Day, then you could try the Shamrock bun. This one is a little trickier to do but well worth the effort. Keep reading for a step-by-step tutorial on how to do it!
Add some TELETIES green hair clips or a chic headband to elevate your leprechaun hair to the next level.
Here’s where the hardcore leprechaun hairstyles come out to play. If you’re super committed to your leprechaun-esque look, you could use a green or orange hairspray here. Bonus points if it glitters!
Effortless St. Patty’s Day Hairstyles for Last-Minute Plans
Want your hair to look good for the St. Patrick’s Day festivities but don’t have much time? Even the simplest of styles can look good.
Try a messy ponytail to embrace the effortless look and keep it casual. A messy pony is perfect for a day parade where you don’t want to look all glammed up but want to keep your hair out of your face.
A low bun is another quick St. Patrick’s Day hairstyle that looks cute without going overboard. It’s easy to take out and put back up if needed!
A half-up half-down hairstyle looks way more complicated than it actually is. It’s such a pretty style and takes very little styling skill. Just grab the top half of your hair, put it up in a bun or pony, and you’re ready to go.
Twist your hair up with a green claw clip for a style that takes literal seconds to achieve, yet still has an Irish charm.
You don’t want to have to keep redoing your hair all day long, especially if you’re out at a parade or party. That’s where TELETIES comes in, with hair accessories that keep your hair in place all day long without giving you tangles and knots!
How to Accessorize Your St. Patrick’s Day Hair
Hair accessories can make or break your look, but they shouldn’t break after a few wears, and they most certainly shouldn’t break your hair. TELETIES hair accessories are designed to look cute, without breaking easily or ripping your hair.
As it should be, right?!
The Best TELETIES Hair Accessories for St. Patrick’s Day
The TELETIES St. Patrick’s collection can add a pop of green to your St. Patrick’s Day hair, secure your intricate hairstyles, and polish off your look, all while protecting the condition of your hair.
A green silk scrunchie is perfect for decorating your hair without needing too much. The bigger ones are perfect for a ponytail or bun, while the smaller ones are ideal for tying off a braid. Because they’re silk, they’ll help reduce friction on your hair, keeping static at bay. And green is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!
If securing your hair is at the top of your St. Patrick’s Day hairstyle priority list, then we’d recommend the TELETIES hair ties. They’ve got a strong grip, but they’re gentle on your locks. Again, they come in various sizes, or you can even go for a mixed pack. We’ve got special designs for St. Patrick's Day, including the Dancing Green Mixed Hair Ties and the Clover Craze Large Hair Ties — how cute are they?
Clips are one of the best accessories for your Irish hairstyle. They add so much to every look! From classic claw clips and open hair clips, to flat square hair clips, and round flat hair clips, TELETIES has hair clips for all hair types that won’t break on you.
Headbands are super trendy at the moment, but they can be pretty painful and move around, ruining your hair vibe. TELETIES designed a headband that pulls your hair back and keeps it in place without painful pulling on your hair. A fun multicolored headband is perfect for Patty’s Day!
Step-by-Step Guide to a Chic St. Patrick’s Day Hairstyle
Here’s how to do one of our favorite St. Patrick’s Day hairstyles: a half-up, half-down shamrock style:
-
Part your hair from top to bottom
-
Secure your hair with a small TELETIES hair tie to create a half ponytail.
-
Divide the ponytail into three sections (make the middle section a little thicker).
-
Grab a topsy tail hair tool and put the pointed end behind the hair tie of the ponytail.
-
Take the middle section of the ponytail and draw it through the loop of the topsy tail.
-
Pull the hair through with the topsy tail, but not completely through, leaving the hair as a loop.
-
Now, move to the right section of the ponytail. Put the pointed end of the topsy tail in behind the right side of the hair tie, with it coming out the left side. Bring the right section of hair through the loop and pull the hair through (again, not completely, creating another loop on the right.)
-
Repeat on the left section of the ponytail.
-
Adjust the loops to be the same size, leaving the middle one slightly bigger.
-
Gently pull on the right and left sides of the middle loop to give it a slight heart shape, adding to the shamrock look.
-
Gather the tails of the loops together below the shamrock. Secure with another small TELETIES hair tie and cinch it up.
-
(Optional) add a TELETIES snap hair clip for decoration!
