How to Do A Bubble Braid

If you love the look of a braid but want a more modern style that is easier to create, bubble braids are for you! Instead of twisting and rotating strands of hair, bubble braids take a ponytail and use hair ties to create “bubbles” and a braided effect.

And best of all you can create bubble braids in a couple of minutes making it a go-to hairstyle for class, fun, brunch or simply hanging out with friends.

Here is how to tie a bubble braid and a few fun variations!

To tie a bubble braid you will need:

  • Hairbrush
  • Lightweight hairspray
  • Hair ties
    • Clear if you want to keep the tie hidden
    • Use a colored TELETIE if you’d like to add a pop of color

The steps to tie a bubble braid:

  1. Brush your hair to eliminate all tangles and to ensure that your hair is smooth and ready to be styled.
  2. Tie your hair into a ponytail where you want to begin your bubble braids.
  3. Secure any baby hairs or flyaways using a lightweight hairspray.
    1. This step will help ensure your ponytail is as sleek and smooth as possible.
  4. Using another hair tie, secure another section of your ponytail a few inches below your first hair tie.
  5. To create the bubble in between the hair ties, tease the section of hair to loosen it and create the bubble.
  6. Repeat these steps and add hair ties until you’ve reached the end of your ponytail.

And ta-da! You now know how to tie a bubble braid. But don’t let this one option stop you from getting creative!

There are a ton of bubble braid looks you can create. Try a double ponytail bubble braid for a symmetrical or asymmetrical style. French bubble braids look great for a cocktail party or dance, and two smaller front-piece bubble braids are perfect for a fun night out.
